weather, etc.
Apr. 5th, 2023 08:32 pmIt's warm(-feeling) and muggy out there. Somehow this big front with storms straight along all of it split up and moved around Ann Arbor without but a little rain and breeze. So far, anyway. There's a little pod of storm to the west just now, and the line along which the temp drops 10 degrees F in 25 or 30 miles is still a bit further to the west. I have lotsa windows open, and the cats are as confused-looking as they are delighted-. Earlier they were acting outright spooked, and I don't think that was entirely me projecting.
Walked a few houses down the block & back earlier today (with sticks) and then most of the way down the block & back a little bit ago. I'm supposed to take long strides when outside, and remember to heel-to-toe it, and bend the knee I don't want to bend. Inside it's mostly the remembering to bend.
Turner Classic Movies, now part of the same conglomerate that owns the Warner Brothers catalog, is showing only films from that studio this month, in honor of its 100th anniversary. I've got a fun pre-code one called Blessed Event on now. While icing my knee (aiming for 3 times a day on that). Young Dick Powell is still just a crooner in this one. But it's a newspaper picture, and includes Ruth Donnelly looking up "nadir" and telling Lee Tracy that it comes from Arabic. Ruth also takes phone call that suggest the caller is a gay male with the hots for the columnist she works with, but in a clever enough way that it probably could've cleared the code.
I found the receipts for my thrift store donations last year. Guess where? In a folder I made last year and wrote "Next year's TAXES" on. Hate when I make something harder to find by trying to make it easier to find. This year I've got to do the bigger to-do charitable contributions form, all for a few dollars more of my tax withholdings back. Plus I'm still maintaining my stubborn refusal to spend any more money than I have to on tax doing & filing. Like, pretty much the cost of a stamp to the state with the check I owe them every year since they discontinued the humane credit for paying a stupidly high percentage of your income for housing, which we do here. (Even renters got it.)
Speaking of asshole Republicans in states, Wisconsin survived its Supreme Court election that came close to making all those millions of people subject to draconian laws and persistent gerrymandering. Oh, and Donald Trump was arraigned in NYC yesterday, for 34 felony counts. It's okay with me if he dies before going to trial, but only cuz that ends the particular cult of shit-show personality around him.
