Zipped out of the office this afternoon to deliver a book needed by a certain grad student instructor for class today; beat her to the steps of Angell Hall, so sat there for a few continuing my own read of said book (which I'm hoping to procure for [livejournal.com profile] upsidedownblue, so won't name here). At some point I looked up to see an older straight couple sauntering by, looking at me most curiously; that's when I realized that today I happen to be wearing my MICHIGAN UNDECIDED shirt. Their mildly aghast faces seemed to be saying, "That gray-haired undergrad STILL hasn't picked a major?!?"

In most contexts of my life I think it's fairly clear to folks I'm going for an alternative meaning with those words. (As you can imagine, I don't spend a lot of time reading on the steps to Angell Hall.)

being the lucky recipient of the lovely generous gesture by the fflo here, i just have to note that, unfortunately, i still didn't manage to reach the unreconstructed. although they were swearing left and right the first week that they had come for their intellectual transformation, it seems they don't really dig what it would read like.

I got a raised eyebrow for that?

Oh, it's probably about the book. Yeah, stay tuned.

Say, you think I should run away to the Renegade Craft Fair this weekend, buy Rob's stories? You gonna be in town?

Maybe they just want to be transformed intellectually into something else. Like, fans with a more sophisticated understanding of how we're gonna kick Ohio State's ASS! YEAH!!!

i wouldn't be surprised -- i'm sure they'd like to snow their friends with a speech reflecting a more profound understanding of why tailgating matters. what more appropriate way to be 'academic' than being the people's intellectual like that?
