too much work, but there's also Henry
Jan. 26th, 2022 07:39 pmI need to be getting organized for a meeting tomorrow, but I just wanna go to sleep. Last night I went to bed before 8, then got up from midnight to 4:30 or so, then went back to bed. That worked well.
Took a shower this morning and discovered quickly, upon stepping into it, that I had my phone under a boob. That's a way to carry something around when you're naked and you have big boobs. Caught it quickly and jumped out, to take it out of its case and dry them both. But it turned out the phone had barely gotten wet. Boobs are also effective umbrellas.
In the shower I was trying to remember a line from a West Side Story song (what was it we don't care about so long as it's hot?) which I'd been steered to no doubt by the other lines from that musical quoted in one of the solo numbers in our recent chorus show. Trying to think of a song to replace it with in my head, I cast my mind back to what songs I've really liked, and landed on "Henry's in Love" by Henry Badowski. I loved that song in college. It wasn't just the self-referentiality of it all; it has pleasing structure and prosaic language. So I started singing that. Then I thought to cover it by making it "Lisa's in Love", which was going pretty well--- I could remember a fair portion of the lyric. But then I got to the part in the bridge where "Henry finds himself at one with the big Henry in the sky", and, making that the big Lisa in the sky, it just struck me how women making God a woman so often go to some larger female-ish notion, like Gaea/Earth/Mother---it's not at all like a Henry thinking God is the big Henry, and thus Henry's just a small version of God.
Just added the link to the song, and am listening to it now. Feels pretty '80s. Love the sax. Maybe I'll see about a guitar cover making it Lisa's in love.
It's love, you know.
