Date: Aug. 30th, 2005 03:41 pm (UTC)After a fortnight I'd seen only a fraction (and not a fraction like 47/48 or 115/117) of the benefits of getting sleep. One thing I've failed to mention in
I remember at the beginning I thought I might not really take the thing with me on, say, a short weekend away. Then I came to understand, after the occasional night during which I either doffed the mask for some mysterious reason or couldn't use the machine for inability to breathe through my nose, that even one night without it can leave me draggin', and two or three in a row make for a pretty useless me.
Boggles the mind to think we adjusted to that sleeplessness.
So: good luck, and enjoy, and hang in there if it gets frustrating. Bummer about the nightmares. (I was in at the acute beginning of a horrendous emotional stretch when I started CPAP; my nightmares were rather vivid, too.)
BTW, you have a great interests list---in particular, what leaps out to me: the db's, genitalia, modern lovers, opinionated women, other people's piercings, preston sturges, and prime numbers---though also the record stuff & the early animation guys & 1930s radicalism, bix beiderbecke, douglas sirk, elizabeth bishop, elvis costello, ephemera, essays, hudsucker proxy, louise brooks, magnetic fields (i'm just discovering them), outsider art, p. g. wodehouse, silent films, thelonious monk, toes, used books, wallace stevens, billings, william demarest... and bisexuality... innarestin' guy, you seem.

Date: Aug. 31st, 2005 04:57 am (UTC)Sheesh. Nothing like being shot at without result, huh? Two weeks before my provider dropped off the machine, one of the other DJs at my community radio station, a fellow apneic about two years older than me/us (fond greetings from the far side of the cusp, Cancerian, anything fun happen in those 25 days?) died in his sleep at home. Now THAT'S motivation.
And yes, I'm already sort of amazed/appalled at how I was operating at work before. A few months ago, I remember trying to recopy by hand a list of search items for our customers and not being able to get through more than a few entries before completely zoning out. I had to restart the list several times because you could actually see my handwriting losing coherence as it went down the page. Yikes.
Garsh, and nonironic shucks, and thanks and big sloppy hugs for the kind words about my interests, et cetera. I'm tempted to be boring at length about same (and probably will be in the near future (and btw I had a similar reaction to yr custom dictionary listing: cohomological nilpotentcy? Scha-wing... (and what's green, and commutes? an abelian grape ark ark (and gee whiz I coulda sworn there was a noninfinite path out of this set of recursions around here somewhere (a maze of twisty little passages, all alike (Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a...fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. Daisy, Daisy...(mesozeugma, me () this long time))))))) but it's late out here in reoxygenated Technicolor Munchkinland and I've got to go suck some mask.
Venceremos!
