more custom dictionary talk

Okay---co-worker figured out the custom dictionary mystery, so I can now share mine (so far, after 2 or 3 weeks) with ya'll:

What do you mean, "ho-hum" and "zzzzz"? What is WRONG with you people?

Gee, you do cosmology as well as pure math? And your machine didn't know electro-magnetic already? Or does it not hyphenate it?

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, properly I/we don't "do" any of it... we publish reviews of the current scholarship in most every field that involves higher pure math, even as applied. You can have some fun reviewing the classifications here:

BTW, end of next week or beginning of the following I'll have a bit more social time available for a while. Unless I pick up another freelance thing toot sweet (and I'd just as soon not, even if I should).

oh, and the default dictionary is just whatever comes in the new google toolbar spellcheck ... go figure "electromagnetic" wasn't in there. it does seem to want to hyphenate every bloody thing, though.

we even do string theory! and fuzzy math! how about some p-branes!?

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
hey, who you callin' p-brane, froggy?

[identity profile] squirrelykat.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
uh, i wasn't referring to you, on anybody - i was just thinking of this: P-branes or branes are terms from quantum superstring theory used to refer to membrane-like structures of one to eleven dimensions. hahahahahahahahaha....

yeah, like i have a brain, or branes.

[identity profile] peteralway.livejournal.com 2005-08-18 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Gee, I recall reading about n-branes in SKy and Telescope. But I don't remember p-branes. I do recall that reading too much higher mathematics makes my head hurt, and it turns me into a zombie....

"Branes...branes...branes"

I can't figure out whether this makes me really want your job or really not want your job.

I like a linguistic challenge, but if too many of the words you deal with are that polysyllabic, it might get a bit much after a while.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2005-08-19 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I rarely have to know what they mean, if that makes any difference.
