set of Postcards of the Day
Jun. 12th, 2024 11:43 am
These cards are from a current auction Mary Martin (from Maryland) is conducting. I've got bids in on a few things, but not these, and will probably lose all my lots, but you never know. I'm outbid on some of them already, and swearing not to follow the auction live, when the temptation to up bids can be great, and I don't really need any of these cards, right?
One lot I've already lost is 30+ cards of amusement parks in Massachusetts & Rhode Island. I bid low on the near-zero chance I'd get 'em for a song, and mostly cuzza the "BAMBOO SLIDE" card you can see two versions of here:
Ah, old postcards, and old movies.
About to have a chunk of time off to go to some new movies. But might watch some old ones, too. I finally saw La Strada for the first time the other day, having avoided it cuz there's enough men being jerks to women in the world, right? And, yeah, Anthony Quinn is a jerk to that odd "waif", as she's called somewhere. And it's sad. But so compelling. Once you get past the opening credits.
Gotta get back to the work sprint now, though. Lots to do to wrap up loose ends.
The A/C in my office here is churnin', but it barely registers in the other copy eds room. They've got a window unit out that they'll probably be trying next week, when it's hot, and I'm going to be elsewhere. I used to not take time off in the summer cuz I liked to be in the A/C for the hot days, but now I have my own. So bizarre I have my own.
We're not thoroughly fixing the A/C here at the office because we're moving, to avoid that expense. They'd wanted to find a place before summer, but the earliest we'll have a lease start somewhere is in the fall. What will be next for the old brewery building?
