The top photo is also the "8.5-day" moon taken through the Yerkes telescope, and kinda looks like the very same photo. As peteralway points out when showing celestial bodies, what's up, or the top, is relative. And what you're looking at is upside-down, from the earthling perspective.
Directions are relative on earth, too, but we're naturally enough in general agreement about "up".
