Oct. 5th, 2023 04:54 pmI got all my wishes for the wild cards but for the Brewers. Now I'm rooting for the Twins (underdogs, small market, been a long time), the Dodgers (just kinda like the Dodgers, historically), the Phillies (WAY better than the Atlantas), and of course the O's. But all that really matters is them Orioles continuing to win.
They did end the regular season with some rare sloppiness. In the mere 2 games that remained after they clenched the AL East.
About to have a long weekend off work. And then will have a mission to burn leave over the next few months, on accounta we can only roll over so much, with a new restriction on that, and even if I get to the max for the year, I'll lose a ton. Lots of it was theoretical anyway, in that I could never reduce it except by 1 day a year, taking maxes. Which I never seem to pull off doing.
We used to have an executive editor who thought people shouldn't use all their leave just cuz they have it. I reckon she wasn't particularly oriented toward workers and our compensation and conditions. She was high enough up, and secure enough herself, that it was probably easy to see the lay of the land as a professional society with a mission to contribute to scholarship and aid scholars, stuff like that. I'm not oblivious to that part of it myself, happily. Still, there's a principle involved in my wanting to use as much of that leave as I can, so long as I don't shirk my duties. No work shirk. Leave relieve, sans work shirk. Oddly, it can be work to arrange for time off work, though. Y'know?
Today it's been raining steadily, and not lightly, all day. Socked in. I took out some trash anyway, and set out the little autumn tableau pictured above. Have only one window open now, and will close that up before long. Things to do around the house! Not that there aren't always. There are.
Baseball starts up again Saturday.
