not trying to disappear
Sep. 14th, 2023 05:35 pmWorking on a work computer at home more has made it harder to remember to update here. You'd think it wouldn't be so involved, to switch machines, and I don't think there's any reason I couldn't update from the official work property (even though Big Brother is watching), but still. I'll put up a postcard in a moment, though.
Today so far the Universe hasn't had any surprises for me. I guess it's a mild surprise that my furnace probably needs a new motor, but I knew the furnace person was coming today. No time-warp person things, though.
I wish Fall went on for months & months. What if we had 2 months of winter, 4 months of Spring, 3 months of summer, and 12 months of Fall? I'd be okay with the last month of Fall being sorta a wintery Fall, within that schedule. In fact, 3 months of winter with snow on the ground would be great, if followed by a long Spring, a chunk of summer, and a lonnnnnnnnnggg Fall. If you figure out who with power I can to bring this proposal to, do tell. In short, Fall zips by way too quickly. This is my #1 seasonal objection.
The Orioles have a 4-game series with the AL East #2 team, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, starting tonight. Unfortunately, the Seattles didn't beat up on the Tampa Bays, so they're threatening, uncomfortably close. It's looking good for the O's to make the post-season, but of course I want them to win the division.
I sorta have to bet on them tonight, so's not to lose "money", as I took advantage of one of those bet-$5-and-get-$200-in-bets deals to bet on the Lions against "my" team, KC, in the big football opener recently. Couldn't resist rooting for the underdog there, and, sure nuff, I won some money doing that. My $10 (minimum) deposit, with the winnings on the Lions & the "bonus" bets I've made since (including some on the O's) (despite superstitious fears), has my balance around $145. Tonight's the deadline for using up the last 20 bucks in bonus bet money. So I'll be betting $1 of the bookie app's money on the first pitch being a strike (including foul), which'll probably get me 47 cents if it comes true, plus a few other funny little bets.
Pretty sure I just don't have the gambling bug, with money at least. I'm way too cautious. Gonna cash out what I end up with, and then maybe do the same trick with other apps. My main regret is having made their ubiquitous advertising succeed in drawing me in, even if I'm making money from it. Or maybe my other regret is a smidge bigger: that I'll have to report gambling winnings on my taxes. There's also a way I am opposed to gambling, philosophically, largely cuzza how it works against the more appropriate remedy for economic injustice: organized correction of runaway capitalism.
But let's not go down that road here. Time to post a card, get some food, finish up a little work-work, and watch some baseball.
