Memín Pinguín stamps

Came across the controversy surrounding these stamps commemorating Memín Pinguín, a Mexican cartoon character of Charlie Brown proportion, relatively culturally, in this piece, "Even Comics Cannot Escape American Moralizing," from Columbia's El Tiempo, and then this piece from Mexico's El Universal, via WatchingAmerica.com, a groovy site that rounds up news about the U.S. from non-U.S. sources.

Ooh- that's interesting. I love things like that. (Not racist caricatures, of course- that sort of odd, wince-inducing cultural history.) It reminds me of that bit in Ghost World, with the shameful history of the chicken franchise where Steve Buscemi works...

I hope to get a proper e-mail out to you either today or tomorrow, by the way. I just now got my laptop hooked up, and there's something wrong with the wireless adapter, so I've been arguing with it for awhile. I miss all y'all, though.
