Okay, I'll do the post I have in mind another time. Gotta get up and get the car in to have its brakes looked at tomorrow.

Feeling pretty stressed this week. Got a lot going on, and a lot to get in.

Only one more swim class now. Still haven't made it the full length doing the crawl. Got some more good tips tonight, though. Was a disaster in my first stabs at a flip turn, though. It looks fun, and felt fun the one time I actually did a sommersault in the water.

I think I can say I feel much more comfortable in the water in general than I used to.

Good stuff with kc this week. Funny how much having somebody else think something makes me more sure of it. (You know, somebody else I trust and respect.)

Yep.

Lucinda Wms is on Letterman doing that great relentless "I Changed the Lock on my Front Door" song---with the litany of defiances/escapes that even include changing the name of this town. The band's all good and raunchy behind her. I wonder why she's gone back to pull this one out now. You don't suppose it's her first time on Letterman, do ya?

Earlier tonight I held off on more Sopranos to watch an Australian movie from 1999 with Rachel Griffiths---Me Myself I. She, of course, was in Muriel's Wedding and plays a complicated & (thus) juicy character on Six Feet Under. Somehow I didn't know the title would be related to the Joan Armatrading song. It was. Haven't heard that one in a while.

I kinda put the Joan l.p.s away for, like, 10 years. Or 12. Or something like that.

The one I do play once in a while is the live "Cool Blue (Stole My Heart)." I reckon it's e-z listening & all, but there's something about it. Something about the outside on a summer night with a lot of people and milling about and drinks. Something about the sound & feel that way.

And So To Bed (take two). Seems there's no googling the poem I'm thinking of here --- a pithy ditty from a guy called Bill Somethin' who used to have a column in the KC Star. It ended with the idea of to "know by feel or light of dawn / Which side my bed is buttered on."

I thought it hilarious at age 8 or so.

I was just thinking about having fun. Not as in "hey, maybe I'll go have some fun now" but as in "how about that fun, and having it, and thinking of it, and what it is to people?"

This isn't the post I was thinking of making last night. That post was going to be about my grandmother's Suzy Damn Doll. To be a Suzy Damn Doll is to be the thing somebody kicks around when they're mad about something or someone else. I gather my grandmother had a doll called Suzy who served this purpose for her, but by the time I was in the picture the expression was applied to people, usually in a context of defiantly saying "I'm not going to be your Suzy Damn Doll," or suggesting that someone not stand for being someone else's Suzy Damn Doll.

I thought of that stuff after hearing [livejournal.com profile] atleastdefiant talk of having had such a relationship to her stuffed animals at some point (presumably years ago) (ha!).

But tonight I'm wondering about fun, and what you think is fun, and how you know when you're having fun or how you define fun, and how much fun you think you have, and stuff like that there. So here's a poll, and feel free to comment, of course. Me, though---I may not get back here much before the weekend's over, as I'm aiming to have some fun of sorts one doesn't have on a computer.
