Okay, Holly talked to Roc. His mother is the daughter of the sister of Barbara Bush; George the I is his great uncle. I think that means he's a second cousin to the current "leader"---is that right, [livejournal.com profile] pijeanf?

Sure enough, all he had to apologize for was trying to get laid (and being a little sulky about it) on a weekend away---he'd flown our girl to Fishers Island, an old family home I think it was, and then couldn't get into her britches. It seems lately he's been thinking about people in his past, as he's dumped an old friend who takes a mentorly/teacherly 'tude toward him, when R. really just wants a friend.

I don't get it, really, but H. had a good time catching up with him. He's kind of a knock-around type, with (dwindling) family money but no right-wing politics. In fact the presidential family does not get along at all with his mother, and they weren't even invited to the inauguration. So maybe he's not such a bad bloke after all.

I guess that means our influence is way too limited to pull off your earlier request, [livejournal.com profile] hambokins!

Move over, Passat wagon, new Beetle, and even (marketed-to-lesbians-Subaru) Forester: Holly has found the new vehicle for us---it's the (drum roll........)

Honda Element ! ! (cymbal crash!)

What do you think? Do you prefer it in orange?:

Or covered in soap?

It's embarrassing to realize that we want a car being marketed to the X-treme 20-something market, but, goddamnit, it's dorkily boxy! How can one resist that? Plus it has those backwards-opening back doors:

and the shifter's on the dashboard

and the seats can all lay down

.

Yeah, I'll stop there, but I don't want to. I want to show you the optional cabana tent for the rear end and stuff like that. I want to go drive one right now but don't want to get my hopes up until I can investigate how the thing's doing mechanically (in what I think is still its first model year) and whether we have a chance in h-e-double-toothpicks of getting one. Too bad they haven't been out long enough to be available used. (Maybe we won't get one until that's the case.)

Here, here---just one more, as a parting shot:
