Postcard of the Day

Okay, the message on this one's pretty dull, but that addressee--- isn't it some awf'lly English-sounding stuff?  I looked up the place, and I seem to remember it seemed suburban dull.  But "Master Daniel Chiventon (or Chiverton?), 74 Cowslip Bank, Lychpit, Basingstoke ENGLAND" --- it just all feels fine-weird moving around in my American mouth.  And it has compounds. :)

I remember when I was selling my books by mail order, and I got some great English addresses. I remember one was something like "Scunthorpe, Yaddlethorpe." Those were always fun.

OK, it must have been Yaddlethorpe, Scunthorpe. Because it's a real place, according to Google.

My nephew and his family live in Basingstoke.

And, yes, it has a reputation for dullness.

English place names can be extremely picturesque.
