I wonder what history will say about Carter. He seems anomalous. He doesn't even look like a politician- more like a middle order country music star.

There's an expression I'm trying to think of to suggest about his time after his Presidency--- it's something reflexive, like "he's acquitted himself well", but with some other word besides "acquitted". I think it feels more colloquial and also old-fashioned. But darn if I can't come up with it!
