Will we get autumn this year?  Perhaps not much of it.  We may be going straight from long summer to late fall sometime overnight on Thursday.

That puts me in mind of an Algernon Blackwood story about a man living alone on an island in a Canadian lake. It's called The Haunted Island- and it's one of the scariest things I've ever read.

I went to look up the story, just by the title, and was already thinking "I bet I'll need at least part of the author's name" when I clicked to find that there's some animated film by that name too.

Looks like Algernon was quite the interesting fella.
