Somehow, a lot of the postcards I see here make me sad. And this one helps me articulate it well. They seem to say to me "This place would be absolutely beautiful, if it weren't for the kind of ugly thing we are advertising."

The aerial views of Atlantic barrier islands crammed tight with houses really make me think of that. I remember driving around lakes in Michigan where every foot of shoreline was filled with slightly run-down cottages so you couldn't see the lake from the road, and I realized that the precious lake view they were so jealously hoarding was just a view of a thousand other little slightly run-down cottages on the other side of the lake.

Man, am I cynical these days!
