Sometimes you get a nickname for somebody that really hits it on the head. Watch this space for future use of "H-bomb"!

I used to work with microscopic H-Bombs, but it's been nearly 15 years...And I don't think it's what you mean.

What, pray tell, is a microscopic H-Bomb?

A tiny glass or plastic shell, a fraction of a millimeter in diameter, filled with w/deuterium and tritium (two forms of heavy hydrogen), which was hit by an intense laser beam, imploded to the point where the temperatures and pressures reached those of the interior of the sun, triggering nuclear fusion of the hydrogen into helium. They used to do that at KMS Fusion at State Street and I-94. Depending on who you talk to or the way the political winds were blowing, it was utopian pollution-free energy work, or support of nuclear weapons research. Realistically, I think it was both. My job was refining the methods of measuring the glass or plastic shells. Then the company imploded because the capitalist swine running the place were skimming the profits--they owned the building, and so were essentially their own landlords, charging outlandish rent to themselves, and then charging the Department of Energy for the rent as overhead. Eventually the DoE picked up its marbles and went home. All the techies wound up on the street (me) or stuck moving elsewhere for work. There was a period of months where I was paid hansdsomely not to work, though. I referred on LJ once to being paid thousands of dollars to not do fusion research. Last decent job I had.

Are you the dulcimer book fairy? I'm sort of remembering something vaguely, but I'm not so clear on the whos and the whats...

Well I do have a book for you, but it's not about dulcimers. [livejournal.com profile] squirrelykat told me the other day she has something else for you ... maybe a dulcimer book? I dunno!

Well, gee, thanks for the books. I've commented on them in my own LJ, so no need to rant more here, except to say I din't have them and there is interesting reading in a couple of them.

I'd thank you for the complement for the flowers, but I can't take credit for the garden. My ex-wife did all that gardening back in the years before she was seduced by the dark side of the internet (about a year ago).

My freind [livejournal.com profile] trollhagen has agreed to do some basic maintenence this year in exchange for first dibs on taking some of the plants she wants. If it's on your way to Home Depot again, you are certainly welcome to cut some flowers for your own use.
