My first reaction is that a bus can't get you to an island, and if you're already on the island, you don't have to specify that it's an island bus.

But then I realized that just because there are palm trees, it doesn't mean it's one of those islands in the middle of the ocean, so maybe you can reach it by a bridge.

But it is one of those islands in the middle of the ocean, so your raised eyebrow has a point. Saipan. A Northern Mariana. Tho I wrote Marinara at first. Would be pretty fun if marinara sauce were named after some islands in the Pacific.

I'm told that Valles Marineris, the big canyon on Mars, was named for the Mariner 9 spacecraft that discovered it. Then some linguist came along and pointed out that it didn't mean "Mariner valley" but "marinated valley."

That's funny. I'da been betting on just the "mar" = sea thing that gave mariners their name to begin with. So that's sorta close.
