Date: Feb. 21st, 2018 05:14 pm (UTC)My old friend Terri and I once got the best assignment ever & drove Gwendolyn Brooks an hour and a half from our little college to the Nat'l Gallery of Art, where we rendezvoused at the giant Miró wall hanging with the people from the other little college that she was going to be at next. We didn't think those people looked worthy of her company, and were extra-loath to leave her with them. She kissed us each goodbye, and for a long time it was nice not to have kissed another woman, so I could say that the last woman I'd kissed was Gwendolyn Brooks.
The wall hanging has since been taken down, dang it.
It's funny that we decided to meet there. Not the most convenient place, clearly. And thus aesthetically pleasing for its impracticality, as well as for the chance to stand under the woman with the woman, to say goodbye.
