Hey, I've actually been there! I was there with my brother on the way to the national rocket contest (it's entirely possible that it was the trip where my userpic was taken). I remember a young woman came up to us who was working on a research project about the educational value of the various signs and displays at the park. When she asked what we thought created the Petrified Forest, my brother described this as the results of a dinosaur timber operation, drawing parallels with more recent logging sites.

I told her that now I understood why people said that dinosaurs were "great lumbering beasts."

:) I like that story.

I've driven by it but didn't make a stop. Dunno why--- musta been in a yank to get somewhere. Crazy I didn't stop. I dig petrified wood. From whenever I first found out about it and touched some, as a kid.
