Yes, I too am not happy about the way it was forced on us, suddenly, so that we have had to accept it even to log in.  But you know what's sticking in my craw?  That now anyone not logged in to an LJ account will see ads on my journal/page, even though I have a paid account.

There are lots of things people aren't liking about the sudden news, but this is the one bugging me most.

When I made a Dreamwidth account, importing my lj to it made so many hits on Photobucket that that (now lousy anyway) site disabled my using it for embedding.  I've been using Imgur for the postcard pictures.  Wonder if grabbing a bunch of bandwidth from them in an update of importing would do the same thing.  Maybe I can import in smaller chunks or something.

It's a bummer.  It really is.  I suppose I know we have no permanent addresses on the ol' internet, like we have no permanent anything and are impermanent myself.  But I've liked having this same-old-same-old spot to put postcards and talk to the people who still come here, oddballs though we probably are for doing that.  Not that I even know most of you.  At least not the way we know people anywhere else.  I like knowing the people here the way I know you, and never knowing who-all else might be looking, too, at public posts anyway.  You know we won't/don't all go the same places when we go.  The going to Dreamwidth and crossposting is close, but, I dunno, I don't much like the idea of having to bother with both.

Le sigh.

Yesterday there were both a banner ad at the top and inline ads between about every 4 or 5 posts. Today the inline ads don't seem to be there, but I still get a banner ad at the top on mine. Not on yours. So perhaps permanent has the advantage there. But the banner ad at the top, since it scrolls away, is not as much of an irritation to me, though it still sucks, I think, for paid users not to get that bonus.

I complained about the ad thing in the screened comments to the lj news post. They didn't used to screen comments there, if I remember right.

They definitely didn't screen comments there before.

What browser are you using when you see ads on your journal? I've now tried four of them, not logged in, and disabling my adblocker, and I'm still not seeing an ad on your journal.

Chrome 50.0.2661.94 and Firefox 45.8.0.

The one in Chrome just now are via Criteo, and try to entice me to things I've recently been browsing about. Criteo can be temporarily disabled, it seems, and perhaps if you are browsing privately or something (recording no history?) it'd have nothing to draw from? I dunno.

It's in the new user agreement that ads will appear to the non-loggedin.

Ah . . . I was looking at your journal's homepage rather than at the individual entry pages. Now I see it, and it's on my journal also. And it's huge and hideous! That is definitely off-putting.

I see it on my journal's home page too. But at least they got rid of the ones stuck between entries every so-many.

Ah, that's where your account differs from mine. I'm not sure why I couldn't see it before, but now I do see a banner on your journal's home page. But not on mine. For whatever it's worth, I suspect that this difference is not due to my having a permanent account, but rather to my having a custom journal style in the ancient, S1 style system . . . I think few enough people use that system now that they haven't bothered trying to figure out how to add banner ads to it.
