It seems to've been a deliberate design choice. This place was a "purple tree lounge"--- which I'm figuring was a concept/decor sold somewhat broadly. I've seen postcards of more than one such location.

Wow that is one seriously colorful lounge! The purple trees kill me. It looks like it went through several revamps along the way, too.
