My but the droopy branches of that evergreen outside this window look wild & dramatic, weighted down with inches of frosting.

Not only did my kick-ass boss call this morning to say we got the snow day, but she had already called everybody else! Usually we divvy up the list. I don't reckon I've written much about her here, but TGP is somethin'. She works her butt off for us behind the scenes, and she cares more about being a human being with us than she does about controlling everything---even when that instinct/desire makes it harder for her to do her job.

Anyway. Spent much of today so far talking to [livejournal.com profile] vjsmom. Sounds like she's maybe [crossing fingees] going to be in a good space for my visit. Hope so! Our talk today, along with a recent tidbit from [livejournal.com profile] homovegetarian, are reminding me how much easier it is to see how other people have been treated badly than it is to see it in my own life. Here's to a new year of refraining from working to excuse those throwing shit at us! Who's with me?

I'm with you! *begins singing iconic Twisted Sister song, is quickly knocked unconscious from thrown liquor bottles*

(And yeah, TGP definitely deserves a round of applause. [Not that you don't as well!] But she sounded incredibly perky and cheerful while calling me this morning- so happy to be delivering good news- that it made me feel extra-good about going back to sleep.)

Me, too! I wafted off smiling. She's such a good egg. I remember hearing that somebody ---I can't remember who, but I hope it's somebody who no longer works there--- though we oughta act disappointed about snow days, or at least not be openly celebratory of them. Might undercut the Mission, or imply that we care more about getting a day off than we do about productivity goals. As if! That is, as if we wouldn't! If only cuz we get productivity goals all the time, but how often are you cozily confined at home, commanded not to show up for the daily labor you're otherwise expected to come do?

Exactly! TGP actually insisted that I "stay home and take it easy"! I would be an ingrate if I didn't!

You do mean "We're Not Gonna Take It"?

There's a great Love & Rockets (the comic, not the band) panel---made into a T-shirt, as I recall---in which some version of the girls' band is performing, and Hopey's back there with her bass slung low, and Terry (I believe it is) is at the mike saying "If you were really hardcore, you'd have thrown a full bottle."

Ha! I'm not as familiar with the comic as I should be (moreso with the band, for reasons that are suddenly inexplicable), but that's funny!

L&R band shot

We Want It Bald!

Not quite the panel I'm thinking of, but there's a taste.
