Why am I unsubscribing from email from you, President Barack Obama, on the occasion of your second attempt this week to get me to give you money to back a half-assed bandaid on the way health care works in this country?

"Single payer health care! Not this nonsense, and asking us for money to help with it.

Some going back on campaign declarations is to be expected, but the overall air of compromise of the Obama administration so far is beginning to give off the scent of mediocrity. Just cuz you're so much better than the last guy, that doesn't mean you're doing well enough."

I unsubscribed a couple of days ago, too. My explanation was much shorter and gay-rage-ier. :)

Ooh, well said. I'm going to have to keep that second paragraph in my back pocket for awhile and may quote you on it at some point.

just remembered i'd written all gayly to his campaign, way back in the early days, to complain at how careful he was being about not being too gay-supportive on the campaign website. i chalked it all up to wanting to look moderate & not write off the right-er of the (as if they are) Right, but as time goes on i begin to think he may not have a natural support for us, and could be in fact pragmatically posing for OUR sake, on queer issues.

isn't that a terrible idea? that it could be true?

michelle, i'm convinced, is on our side. don't tell me otherwise, world.

He basically recycled whatever was available from previous democratic presidential candidates. Nothing new or change-oriented there. And we knew he'd be centrist.

I'm considering starting a letter writing campaign to him and everyone who represents me weekly. Cuz it doesn't seem like people are taking to the streets and I just need to feel like I'm doing something.

I don't know if he is or isn't, but I hope she is. Who knows, though?

This site might hopefully develop into a good central source of information and petitions on the slights thus far: Obama's Plan for Gay Rights. (The content that is there--which isn't much so far--seems fairly useful.)

i was just thinking yesterday about the ramping up of patriotism and support for the military on all the comedy shows and i don't have any other explanation except that it's a way to mitigate the anger he is provoking just by being alive.

the whole fed benefits and gay rights agenda is still shit.

I still think he's on our side, to the extent that he's on either side. However, I think he's much more concerned about getting himself re-elected than he is about any other issues he has any opinion about. If he were certain it wouldn't hurt him politically, I think he'd help us, but I don't think he'll do anything at all for us if he even worries that it might cost him politically.

In other words, he's a politician.
