People often think I work in stores I'm shopping in, too.

Well, the two may not be related, but again this afternoon I was asked for directions, which I'm glad to know my town well enough again to have a reasonable chance of delivering. Do people seem to choose you to ask for directions more often than random chance would have it? They do me, or so I perceive it.

Did you call up your NY accent and send them in some particular directions, or fess up to your origins elsewhere?

I get asked for directions in cities I don't even live in.

I can't even begin to count the times that people have thought that I worked in the store. Being in the delivery bidness, I can sometimes get bogged down in figuring out the best possible route for someone to take, or give too much info.

I can relate! Worse, I felt terrible one time in Baltimore I sent some people to the wrong highway ramp, having somehow mistaken which one they were after at first, and having it sink in after they'd driven off.

If I had to ask somebody for directions around here, I'd be happy to've turned to you.
