Strange that such a personal message would be sold into the used postcard market.

And then there's the picture--I learned about breeches buoys three years ago when I was researching early rocketry. Back in the 19th Century, they started making rockets specifically to send the lines out to a grounded ship for use with a Breeches Buoy. Apparently the system--well various systems from different countries--saved thousands of lives.
