Gee, I dunno. There was one in New Orleans in 1984. The style of this card seems more dated than that, but maybe the scenic route was going for something a little retro?

Yeah, it looks like it's from long before I was born.

Wikipedia has an entry on the highway, and mentions:

"The Canada to Gulf Highway Association, which later became the U.S. Highway 287 Association, was active from the 1910s until the 1970s to promote US 287 as a popular tourist route, and was composed of members from businesses and organizations in cities along the route."

It seems like they'd be the people to promote the highway. Maybe it was the Seattle world's fair in 1962?
